I’m approaching the end of the beginning with Love And Distraction. I’ve just completed the seventh draft, taken the ritual scrivener snapshot and now I’m putting it down for a week or two. The scenes are now pretty much set (although there is one scene at the end that still may come out) and with the more heavily reworked sections, I’m moving commas in the sentences, then putting them back again – a sure sign that I’ve done all I can on those parts for now.

I’m planning one more draft, which will be more of a read through and sentence level edit (again), then I’ll print it off and give it to my wife to read. She is a brilliant editor, which is very fortunate and she is happy to reread my stuff over and over, which is even more fortunate. Then it will be back to the edits again.

I’m also going to pitch my book to three publishers at the Romance Writers Of Australia conference in August. This is way sooner than I’d anticipated, but I’m there, they’re there, there are empty slots and I will have a finished manuscript by that point. A legit move I hope.

But it’s the long game. The more conversations I have with more people in the industry the better. And it’s a 10 minute slot to talk about my book to a captive audience which is good (for me).
